Stopping at Another Station
We’re at another station stop on the train to Crapsville so it seemed like a good time to send for an update! This has been another difficult week for Nina (and all of us). The good news is that we are half way there! It is with the deeply felt support & prayers of so many friends and gentle spirits near and around the world that keep Nina’s spirit up! It is especially felt during the difficult times such as this past week. In previous weeks, the pain has been more physical in nature and the Honey Bucket was always close at hand! This week, however, was much more about the emotional side of the effects chemo. Hopefully, this next week ‘at the station’ before getting back on the train will be a time to restore energy for the rest of the trip! We’re back at the Cross Cancer Centre on January 2 bright and early for more!
On Saturday evening, Nina and I were invited to a Christmas party. At first, we weren’t sure Nina would be up to going. However, it proved to be the perfect thing for her. Her spirits were lifted greatly. Not only was there great food (and I mean great food), lots of drink and wonderful company, but there were even some of Nina’s former students. One of the highlights was meeting the parents of one of her former students and hearing about his path since high school and university. It is so obvious that one of Nina’s great passions & joys comes from time in the classroom with her students. That has been missed greatly this year! The evening was truly a time to forget briefly about the grunge she’s going through.
It’s time to hop back on the train! We send gentle wishes for a very Merry Christmas. We hope this time of year brings many special times with family and friends. We hope there’s way too much too eat, lots of good things to drink and wonderful stories all with happy endings! It is a time to reflect on the blessings we have. Despite the many and big challenges we have faced this year, our family knows deeply that the blessings we have received have been so much more than we imagined. We also know that our learning curve of gratitude is about the depth and gentle friendship, support and love that Nina and I have felt so many times through all this. Know deeply that the lights from the candles burning in Finland, Bonn, Kathmandu, Australia and so many other places across Canada and the US are not just seen by many but felt in Nina’s heart. The light from these candles shines so brightly and guides us! Your support and love gives us courage and hope. And we’re almost there!
When we see the sign for Wellville we’re jumping off this train! Until then, we’re hanging on! Merry Merry Christmas & Aloha

Somedays There is Music on the Train
Today on the train ride, I received the gift of music from Bev Ross. In a sometimes chaotic and overwhelming place, it is music that is the gift. Today, was a place of comfort as Bev played during my treatment. It was an enriching experience to feel the music enter and calm.

The Road to Khemoville
On Tuesday November 14, 2007 my journey to Khemoville began. I know it will be a long journey. I know it will be a difficult time. But more than anything, I know that this is the road I must follow.
